Tumors of the Small Bowel

Abstract
|
|
|
We analysed 18 cases of the small bowel tumors, which were treated at the deaprtment of surgery, during the period from November 1987 to March 1993.
There were 8 benign and 10 malignant tumors. 7 cases(4 cases benign, 3 cases malignant) were located in duodenum, 5 cases(3 cases malignant) in the jejunum and 6 cses(3 cases malignant) in the ileum.
The most common presenting symptom was abdominal pain in both benign and malignant tumors. Vomiting, bleeding and anemia were also noted in malignant tumors.
In the pathologic findings of the tumors leiomyoma was the most common benign tumor and adenocarcinoma was the most common malignant tumor.
9 cases of benign and malignant tumors of the jejunum and ileum were treated with small bowel resection and anastomosis. 1 cases of adenoma and 1 case of of adenocarcinoma of the duodenum were treated by Whipple's procedure. 1 case of duodenal
lelomyosarcoma and 1 case of lymphoma of the ileum were carried out duodenogastrectomy and vagotomy, right hemicolectomy each other.
There was no postoperative complicatibn and perioperative mortality.
